Exploratory Analytics is an important in data analytics, but as an analyst I have to focus on Explanatory Analytics too. Imagine, if you already spent many time to digging pile of data but in the end you don’t know how to present your findings. Here are some tips from me for you to do Explanatory Analytics :

Define Who

Who is your audience ? Who are you ? Start asking yourself those question to determine your position. Your position is important because you can design your explanation for the right audience. You have to create different approach for different audience. Example, as a staff you have to present in front of Board of Director, you have to know which part is the most important for them. In the opposite, different approach is needed if you have to present in front of external audience.

Define What

What kind of media ? What do you need your audience to know ? Presentation media is important because different media makes different approach example, live presentation is totally different than filed report to your audience, in live presentation you have total control but less practical. Make sure you already know what is your audience want to know from your data.

Define How

How you gonna deliver your findings ? In example you have to present a company achievement in one year, the delivery way have to be sounds more happy, in opposite you want to focus on last year declining profit, the delivery have to focus on the right mood too.
